I bought this scanner a month ago so I could digitise some medium format (6cm x 6cm) negatives from the 50’s and 60’s. Most scanners will only go up to 35mm so this one is quite useful. I’ve since used it to scan a load of prints and some 35mm negatives too. I’ve run out of things to scan and don’t have the room to keep it. Despite being an older model, the scanner gives great results with a resolution of 4800 DPI it will turn a 35mm negative in to a 30 Megapixel image which is much higher detail than a consumer grade film. The scanner has Epson’s’digital ICE’ system which pre-scans the film using infra-red light to find and correct any defects and dust. Both pieces of optical glass are in good condition with no scratches or marks and there is no fogging on the inside of the glass. I have two film adaptors, one for slides and 35mm film strips and the other for medium format. The medium format adaptor is not the right one for this model (it’s for an epson V800) but it works just fine, you just have to put it in the opposite way round. This is the forerunner to the V500/V550 model but the improvements between the two are pretty subtle. This scanner uses a fluorescent tube as a light source (instead of LED) so needs about 40 seconds to warm up but you don’t really notice that and you only have to do it once per session. I don’t have the original manual or software CD but these can both be downloaded from Epson’s site here.. Epson are still supporting the scanner with drivers so windows 7,8 & 10 are supported and so is macOS 10.10. Update: I now have the official medium format / brownie film holder which I will include with the unit. It took nearly a month to arrive from when I ordered it! I would use the other one anyway as it has a proper glass insert to keep the film flat.
